Une séance de “relooking” réalisée en l’espace d’une nuit avec la complicité de plusieurs artistes locaux, et inaugurée le 9 juin dernier dans la rue de “Madeira Drive” par la chanteuse et actrice britannique, ouvertement lesbienne, Heather Peace, à l’occasion du mois de la Fierté #LGBT.
Coïncidant également avec la sortie de son nouveau single “We Can Change“, l’interprète de “Sam Murray” dans la série “Lip Service” qui met en scène des membres de la communauté homosexuelle de la ville de Glasgow (en Écosse), a déclaré qu’elle n’aurait pas “imaginé un plus bel endroit” que sa ville natale “pour célébrer un aussi joli symbole de la diversité.”
D’autres initiatives avaient déjà été constatées sur les pavées de Moscou, à Paris, Shanghai et au Cambodge en signe de soutien à la communauté LGBT, mais cette nouvelle “traversée” est la première “officielle” du genre en Europe.
Brighton rejoint ainsi les villes de Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne et Tel-Aviv à rendre hommage à l’inclusion et l’égalité.

Local artists worked overnight to give Madeira Drive the special makeover to coincide with LGBT Pride month, with singer and actress Heather Peace on hand to unveil the installation.
It is the first official crossing of its kind in Europe, joining cities like Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne and Tel Aviv. Unofficial crossings have appeared in Moscow, Paris, Shanghai and Cambodia as a mark of support for the LGBT community.
The unveiling of the crossing ties in with Peace’s new single We Can Change, which champions gay rights.
She said: “I knew there could be no better place in Europe to create a Rainbow Crossing than in my home town of Brighton. We Can Change, is my big gay anthem.
“It’s an empowering tribute to equality and I wanted the crossing to be a beautiful symbol to represent that during LGBT Pride month. It’s a gift from me to anyone that embraces diversity.”
