Le 13 novembre dernier, sans autorisation ni raison sinon la provocation, comme c’est souvent le cas pour ces gens là, Petras Gražulis, 55 ans, homme politique lituanien, bien connu pour ses opinions homophobes, ancien président du Parti chrétien-démocrate (quel hasard) et dirigeant du parti de la droite-populiste “Ordre et Justice“, s’est présenté tout fièrement dans les locaux du centre #LGL (Lithuanian Gay League qui défend les droits des LGBT) pour leur offrir ironiquement un jean avec un zip sur les fesses, qu’il avait fait confectionner spécialement pour l’occasion.
Accompagné d’un “cameraman”, il a ainsi interrompu une conférence, qui était en cours avec Vladimir Simonko, cofondateur et président de l’association, pour essayer de faire son buzz, en expliquant devant tous, qu’il tenait à remercier toute l’équipe du centre LGL pour leur travail dans la protection des droits humains, avant de surenchérir et d’entamer un long discours sur comment ‘guérir’ de l’homosexualité – cette “malédiction venue de l’Union Européenne”… à grands coups de citations religieuses.
Rappelons que Petras Gražulis avait déjà proposé en 2010 une loi pénalisant la soi-disant “promotion de l’homosexualité auprès des mineurs” en réaction à l’organisation d’une “Baltic Pride” mouvementée. Le texte avait été rejeté, et même transformé en loi protégeant les minorités sexuelles. Comme quoi…
Mais, Vladimir Simonko, a eu la bonne idée de reconversion pour le jean en question. Comment transformer une blague homophobe de mauvais goût en capitale utile ?
Dès le lendemain, il a organisé une vente aux enchères plutôt ludique avec expiration symbolique de l’événement pour le mardi 10 décembre, Jour des Droits de l’Homme. Humour et réaction… Le plus offrant, Mr. Christian V. a reçu le cadeau, tout bien emballé, pour la somme de 80 euros. Et cette recette sera utilisée pour la défense des droits des homosexuels 🙂
L’initiative de Gražulis n’aurait été qu’un fait divers assez banal si malheureusement elle ne reflétait pas en vérité la situation des droits des minorités sexuelles en Lituanie. Un pays qui compte 3,5 âmes.
Dans un autre pays européen, cet homme aurait peut-être été poursuivi pour outrage ou diffamation, mais en Lituanie il ne récolte quasiment que des approbations.
“Tout le monde a entendu parler de son “happening”, mais aucun homme politique ne l’a dénoncé. Pire encore: on l’a même apprécié. Gražulis est un des hommes politiques les plus populaires”, regrette Simonko, “et c’est grâce à ses propos anti-gays”.

On 12-13 November 2013 the Fundamental Human Rights Conference (FRC) “Combating hate crime in the EU: Giving victims a face and a voice”, organised by the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency is taking place in Vilnius, Lihuania. The conference focuses on fighting hate crimes and seeks to establish and promote international cooperation among the EU member states in combating discrimination and violence motivated by racism, xenophobia, religious intolerance or homophobia.
While the LGL’s Board Chair Vladimir Simonko together with other two staff members are attending the conference, the Lithuanian MP and the member of the governing coalition Petras Gražulis has come to the LGL‘s office to deliver a personal “present” for the remaining of the LGL’ staff. He has pretentiously expressed his „gratitude for LGL in the field of protecting human rights and combating homophobia in Lithuania“. Furthermore, the politician was accompanied by an unidentified cameraman, who filmed the LGL’s staff and premises without permission.
LGL condemns this action by the MP Petras Gražulis and considers it as being humilliating and offensive to the local LGBT* community. Taken into account the ongoing FRA’s Fundamental Human Rights Conference, which is organised in cooperation with the Lithuanian EU Presidency, this kind of hateful action by the MP is indicative of the prevailing homophobic, biphobic and transphobic atmosphere in the Lithuanian society. Instead of actively contibuting to reducing the rates of homohobic rethorics and actions in Lithuania, the Member of the Parliament has no shame in publicly harassing and inciting hatred against the local LGBT* community. LGL encourages public authorities to condemn this incident.
