Vendredi dernier, Brandon Stanton, un photographe américain de 30 ans, connu notamment pour ses clichés de citadins partagés sur son blog “Humans Of New York“, a posté le portrait d’un adolescent sur Facebook, accompagné d’un court témoignage :
“Je suis homosexuel et j’ai peur de ce que l’avenir me réserve et que les gens ne m’aiment pas”.
Quelques minutes plus tard et à la surprise générale, un commentaire de la page officielle de campagne d’Hillary Clinton est apparu sur le fil d’actualité pour encourager le jeune homme :
“Prédiction d’une adulte : Ton avenir sera merveilleux. Tu vas d’ailleurs être surpris de tout ce que tu es capable de faire et pour toutes ces choses incroyables que tu accompliras encore. Et tu trouveras des personnes pour t’aimer et qui croiront en toi. Il y en aura beaucoup.” Signé H.
Message également repartagé par Kristina Schake, directrice de communication de la candidate à l’investiture démocrate pour l’élection présidentielle américaine de 2016, sur son compte twitter. Il s’agissait donc bien d’un témoignage “originale” d’Hillary Clinton.
Malheureusement ensuite, sans aucune autre explication, Facebook a tout simplement supprimé le post en question. Erreur d’administration ? Impossible pour Brandon Stanton de republier la photo, toujours en ligne pourtant sur Instagram. Il aura fallu l’intervention de tous les fans pour inciter le réseau social à revoir sa décision. Mais trop tard. Le commentaire de l’ex-secrétaire d’état n’y était plus. Heureusement, nous avions la capture.

>> Leading Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, took to Facebook on Friday to offer words of encouragement and advice from a ‘grown-up’ to a gay teen worried about his future.
Clinton shared her kind words in response to a photo posted by the page of Humans of New York, a project run by photographer Brandon Stanton.
“I’m a homosexual and I’m afraid about what my future will be and that people won’t like me,” Stanton quotes the teenager captured in his photograph as saying.
Less than an hour after Stanton posted the photo, the official Clinton campaign Facebook account left the following comment: “Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you’re capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you – there will be lots of them.”
The message was signed ‘-H’ to indicate that she had written the post herself.
Clinton’s deputy communications director for the Hillary for America campaign, Kristina Schake, shared the comment on Twitter.
A few hours after the post was shared on Facebook, it was removed without explanation. Brandon Stanton, the creator of Humans of New York posted the following message:
Seems that Facebook removed the young man’s brave statement and is now preventing me from uploading any further photos. I’m hoping it was a mistake. It is currently still on Instagram and I’m trying to figure out how to get it back up.
After complaints from the blog’s fans, Facebook reversed the decision and allowed the photo to be reposted. However, the former Secretary of State’s message was missing.
