C’était dimanche dernier, très tôt le matin, J.P. Masterson et son partenaire Peter Moore venaient de célébrer leur 10e anniversaire de vie commune. Mais tandis qu’ils rentraient tranquillement chez eux, ils ont été sauvagement attaqués par un individu, sur le quai de métro de la “W. 4th Street” au cœur de Greenwich Village.
« Je hais les putains de pédés » a crié l’agresseur au couple, avant de frapper “Masterson » en le poussant vers les rails du métro.
J.P. Masterson a été transporté à l’hôpital avec le nez cassé, de multiples fractures faciales, et plusieurs côtes brisées :
« Je ne peux plus vraiment respirer, j’ai le nez complétement décentré… » a déclaré Masterson.
Mais le pire pour les deux hommes, c’est qu’au moment des faits, la station était bondée, et personne n’a réagi :
« Il devait y avoir plus d’une cinquantaine de témoins sur le quai lorsque nous avons été agressés, et pas un seul n’est intervenu, ni même eu l’initiative d’appeler par exemple la police pour nous aider. Quelle déception. »
Meurtri mais pas abattu, Masterson a vivement souhaité que les new-yorkais se solidarisent davantage, et interviennent franchement pour porter secours aux victimes plutôt que d’assister allégrement au tabassage : « … parce qu’à la fin de la journée, vous savez, nous ne sommes que des êtres humains. »
« Vous pourrez me cogner, et je dois d’ailleurs avoir l’air franchement grotesque actuellement avec la tronche que j’ai, mais je suis toujours debout ! »
Une enquête est évidemment en cours, et la police a d’ailleurs diffusé un portrait robot du suspect.

The attacker yelled “I fucking hate faggots” at the couple, before striking Masterson and pushing him toward the subway tracks.
Masterson was taken to the hospital with a broken nose, facial fractures and seven broken bones. “I have multiple fractures in my face, eye socket and nose,” Masterson told D’Auria. “I can’t really breathe because my nose is off center.”
The couple says there were about 50 people waiting at the busy subway station, but not a single person bothered to help the victim.
According to CBS New York:
Masterson added that he was very disappointed that when the attack happened, no one on the crowded subway platform called police or did anything. There were about 50 people on the platform at the time, he said.
“I want my New Yorkers to step up and help me out, because, you know, at the end of the day, we’re all just people,” he said.
“I couldn’t believe in this day and age that in the Village, which is where I came out and felt the most accepted, that now I have to be on edge,” Masterson told CBS New York.
Despite the attack, he and Moore are resilient.
“You might beat me down, and I might look real grotesque right now, ” said Masterson, defiant. “But I’m still standing.”
The suspect is believed to be about 5’8″, 170 pounds, and in his late 20′s. Police released this sketch of the suspect.
