Il y a quelques jours, Yulia Volkova s’est retrouvée empêtrée dans un tourbillon médiatique pour ses prises de position contre l’homosexualité. Lors d’une interview à la télévision russe, la brune du célèbre duo féminin a choqué ses anciens fans : « Oui, je condamnerais mon fils s’il était gay, parce que je pense qu’un homme se doit d’être un vrai homme. Un homme n’a pas le droit d’être un PD ! ».
Des propos très violents d’autant plus surprenants que t.A.T.u. a fondé son image et son succès sur l’ambiguïté sexuelle entre Lena Katina et Yulia Volkova, qui s’embrassaient de manière torride, en tenues d’écolières et sous la pluie, dans le clip de “All The Thing She Said”…
“Chacun est libre d’aimer qui il veut”
Forcément, la polémique a entraîné des réactions très hostiles sur les réseaux sociaux. Sur sa page Facebook, son ancienne acolyte Lena tient à rassurer ceux qui la soutiennent : oui, elle condamne fermement les paroles offensantes de Yulia. « Je ne peux dire qu’une chose : Dieu nous apprend que l’amour fait partie de nos vies, il nous apprend à être tolérant et à ne pas juger son prochain », écrit-t-elle, estimant que l’amour est un « sentiment merveilleux ». La jolie rousse enfonce ensuite le clou : « Je crois que chacun devrait être libre d’aimer qui il veut et de vivre avec qui il souhaite ! ». A bon entendeur…
Ces remarques, beaucoup plus tolérantes que celle de son ex-collègue, confirment que Lena ne souhaite plus être associée de loin ou de près au duo qui l’a fait connaître. Juste après la réunification de t.A.T.u. aux Jeux Olympiques d’hiver de Sotchi, la chanteuse avait pris la parole pour dénoncer les pressions exercées sur elle par son acolyte. La sortie de l’album “The Re-Invention” avait été annulée dans la foulée.
>> Volkova, who rose to fame kissing Katina in the video for 2002 single ‘All The Things She Said’, had stated that she would refuse to accept a gay son in her family during an appearance on a Russian TV talk show. Asked if she would condemn her son if he was gay, she responded: “Yes, I would condemn him, because I believe that a real man must be a real man.” She continued: “God created man for procreation, it is the nature. The man for me is the support, the strength of… I won’t accept a gay son.”
However, Katina has now posted a far more liberal viewpoint on her Facebook page, writing the below statement:
Hey, all! I am seeing some comments lately regarding my position about LGBT and my religion. I can say one thing: God is teaching us to live in love, to be tolerant and not to judge other people! And I do so! Love is love and it is a wonderful feeling! I think everybody should be free to love who they love and be with who they want to spend their life with! Xoxo
In the controversial interview, Volkova said that though she “condemns” gay men, she does not hold the same view when it comes to gay female couples. “I think for men it’s a bad freedom,” she said. “In our time, there is a very large number of frivolous girls (and a man can be with a large number of these girls). This is freedom for men.”
“And a man has no right to be a fag. Two girls together – not the same thing as the two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing. But I want to say that I’m not against gays, I just want my son to be a real man, not a fag.”
“I have many gay friends. I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay is a little better than the rest.”
