Ce fut l’amour fou dès le premier regard, mais pour consolider encore leur histoire, Adam a choisi de se surpasser dans une séance de « Cycling », justement animée par son compagnon, pour lui faire sa demande en mariage et célébrer la Saint-Valentin.
Jared pense tourner ce jour-là une vidéo promotionnelle pour le club de sport dans lequel les deux hommes travaillent. Mais avec la complicité des proches et l’approbation des familles, qui souhaitent un second fils, Adam va surprendre son futur époux dans une chorégraphie passionnée. Et parce que leur rencontre n’était pas seulement le fruit du hasard et qu’il s’agit bien de l’Homme de sa vie, l’élu dira oui, dans une vague vivifiante d’émotions !
Adam qui était en recherche d’un poste de coach, a été formé par Jared. Selon leur entourage, l’alchimie amoureuse était indéniable et en quelques jours, les deux instructeurs sont devenus inséparables : « Il me motive, me permet de me canaliser et d’envisager sérieusement un avenir », a confié Jared. « Surtout que nous sommes désormais une famille : Nous allons continuer de “grandir” ensemble ».

Une histoire d’amour et de force, comme le relate le site hivequal.org pour lutter contre les préjugés et la stigmatisation. Jared et Adam, couple sérodiscordant, sont en effet depuis devenus des porte-paroles. L’un vit avec le VIH et le second suit une nouvelle stratégie de prévention, un traitement nommé la PrEP (Pré-Exposition Prophylaxie), qui permet à une personne exposée au virus de ne pas le contracter, ou du moins d’en réduire les risques, au même titre qu’une pilule contraceptive prévient d’une grossesse, rappelle le HuffPost, en relayant le site de aides.org. « Apprentissage et conseils, il suffit de faire ce qu’il faut pour se protéger. La PrEP nous a délestés d’un poids et c’est aussi une partie de notre histoire qu’il est utile de partager », a ajouté ensuite Jared. « Rien n’est insurmontable quand il s’agit d’amour. Je ne comptais pas laisser passer cette occasion que m’offrait la vie », a conclu Adam.

Adam and Jared, now known as “Team Jadam,” first met last March when Adam arrived at JoyRide’s Ridgefield, Connecticut studio, looking for an instructor job. Jared was responsible for training Adam, and they instantly connected. They admit they both had crushes on one another from the moment they met, and everyone who witnessed the two of them together, agreed there was instant chemistry.
It was only a week before they had their first official date. With their undeniable chemistry, it is no surprise they were mean to be! As Adam likes to say, “It was love at first JoyRide!
Jared says of Adam, “He helps me be more organized and motivated in every way. I am now actively trying to plan for our future, now that we’re a family and are going to grow together.”
Now the real question is, do they take each other’s JoyRide classes? Jared claims Adam is his favorite JoyRide instructor!
The fact of the matter is that HIV is a condition that carries with it a lot of stigma, and many positive individuals (myself included) experience just this type of anxiety over disclosure every time it comes up. Double or triple it if you’re really into the person. I know for me as a single positive guy, I always wonder about the effect of my disclosure on someone new, and if they’re not on PrEP whether access will be an issue.
Thankfully Adam was not only receptive to learning (asking me and others for information, advice, and guidance ultimately leading him to start PrEP) but wanted to find a way to be a more vocal supporter of Jared and the positive community. Yesterday, seeing the way the world has responded to their proposal we felt sharing this part of their story was the perfect way to start. About this, Jared says, “PrEP lifted a huge weight off our shoulders as far as making sure we’re doing everything we can to protect ourselves, I want to share that too.” As far as Adam’s concerned, “I think we’re just two guys in love who won’t let something like status stand in the way.”
I was lucky enough to be in that room and be close to both these men and I can tell you that they couldn’t be better ambassadors for the cause.
