Renversant d’originalité : Visiteurs LGBT, en mal d’aventures homophobes, Stephen Asiimwe, responsable de l’office du tourisme national ougandais, vous invitent à découvrir le pays, à condition de ne pas toucher aux enfants… évidemment !
Maladroitement formuler ? L’homme a été promu en février dernier. Et, ce n’est pas parce que la législation se durcit dans le pays, et que l’homosexualité soit désormais répréhensible de peines de prison à vie, que vous n’y seriez pas pour autant les bienvenus. Plusieurs pays européens, ainsi que les Etats-Unis, ont en effet déjà suspendu en partie leurs relations et soutien à l’Ouganda depuis la promulgation de cette loi homophobe. Mais le secteur touristique qui contribue à près de 10% du produit intérieur brut, souffre. Homos ou pas, ils ont besoin de vous :
«Aucun touriste étranger homosexuel en visite ne sera harcelé ou mal accueilli …. » a garanti Stephen Asiimwe dans un entretient publié par Juergen Thomas Steinmetz, sur le site d’eTurbo News : «Mais la culture est importante en Ouganda, et nous demandons seulement à ce qu’ils la respectent. Pas de rapprochements physiques ou qui pourraient contrevenir à la bonne moralité… comme d’avoir des relations sexuelles avec des enfants.»
Précision quelque peu grotesque qui aura également suscité la colère parmi les professionnels du tourisme : «Stephen Asiimwe se dénote d’un tel niveau d’ignorance qu’on peut vraisemblablement se demander, s’il peut assumer ses responsabilités ?!»

STOP HOMOPHOBIE
>> The CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board has responded to the uproar that was caused by the Ugandan government imposing the life in prison penalty for homosexuals. Various international human rights groups in voicing their reaction to Uganda’s controversial anti-gay laws joined the gay community, as reported here on eTN previously.
In a conversation with eTN publisher Juergen Thomas Steinmetz during the ITB travel fair in Berlin Stephen Asiimwe, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board said, that the said eTN article was widely read and talked about within the Ugandan travel and tourism industry. In this exclusive chat with eTN yesterday, Mr. Asiimwe discussed the issue candidly with eTN publisher Juergen Thomas Steinmetz.
“The result of this very frank discussion was the official statement by the Uganda Tourism Board to guarantee the safety of gay tourists to their country and to go even a step further and welcome gay travelers to enjoy the beauty of their tourism destination,” says the eTN publisher.
According to Mr. Asiimwe, “no gay visitor to our country will be harassed or not welcome for the only reason that he or she may be gay. Cultural policies are important in Uganda. We ask visitors to respect them. They include touching in public for example or engaging in sex with children.”
