Si vous ne la connaissez pas, Lily Tomlin qui interprétait encore récemment le rôle de Roberta dans “Desperate Housewives”, est une “légende” aux Etats-Unis. Actrice, productrice et scénariste américaine, elle a connu des heures de gloire inimaginables depuis les années 80, et dans des comédies telles que “Comment se débarrasser de son patron” avec Dolly Parton, “Big Business ou Quand els jumelles s’emmêlent” avec Bette Midler, “Nashville” avec Ned Beatty… et c’est aussi la “chef du gang d’amies de Marge” dans un épisode de la saison 7 du dessin animé Les Simpsons : Un casse sans casse.
Les deux femmes se sont rencontrées en 1971 et ne se sont plus jamais quittées. Jane a écrit également des spectacles pour Lily. C’est une auteure de renom, maintes fois récompensée. Une véritable communion de talents donc.
Il y a quelques années, Lily s’en amusait lorsqu’on lui parlait pourtant “mariage” jusqu’à s’imaginer déguisée en “poule” pour les noces.
“Il paraît que ça change tout que de se marier, et qu’on devient plus heureuses…”

>> After 42 years together comedy legend Lily Tomlin and her partner, writer Jane Wagner, finally got married on New Year’s Eve, according to Liz Smith’s column in The Chicago Tribune.
In a piece primarily about Bob Fosse, Smith slipped in the news about her friends Tomlin and Wagner.
It was an eventful New Year’s Eve … my longtime friends, Lily Tomlin and her love, the writer Jane Wagner, got married on the eve of 2014. … My wish is that their happiness will be as great as their combined talents,” Smith wrote.
“We’re thinking maybe we’ll get married,” Tomlin told EOnline’s Marc Malkin in August. Her statement came on the heels of the Supreme Court’s ruling the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional and overturning California’s Prop 8, which barred same-sex couples in that state from marrying.
“You didn’t think that would happen,” Tomlin told Malkin in August. “You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice,” she added. “Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very very happy about it.”
Tomlin kick-started her career on the classic sketch comedy show Laugh In, eventually starring in the modern classics like Nashville, 9 to 5 and I Heart Huckabees.
The couple met in 71 when Tomlin asked Wagner to work on her comedy album with her. Tomlin got the idea to ask Wagner to collaborate after viewing an after-school special Wagner wrote.
Later, the pair collaborated on Tomlin’s 1985 Tony-winning one-woman-show The Search for Intelligent Signs of Life in the Universe. Wagner was writer and producer on the show, which was turned into a film in 1991.
At the time she Tomlin told E that she and Wagner might finally marry she made sure to emphasize it would not be a traditional wedding.
“No rings, no bridal dresses,” Tomlin told E. “Maybe we’ll be dressed like chickens.”
