Shane Adriano et Tristian Resz se sont dit « oui » le 11 février dernier, en toute intimité, devant la Cour de justice de Springfield, dans le Greene County, un comté du Missouri aux États-Unis. Un jour placé sous le signe de l’amour pour les deux tourtereaux, qui n’imaginaient pourtant pas enflammer ensuite les réseaux sociaux en partageant la photo de leur « premier baiser échangé en tant que couple marié ».
Publiée sur la page de l’association The American Military Partner, qui regroupe les conjoints et familles des militaires et vétérans LGBT, l’image est rapidement devenue virale et fait depuis le tour du monde.

« C’était une cérémonie organisée avec quelques amis proches », ont déclaré les jeunes mariés, qui souhaitaient partager ces instants de bonheur avec leurs proches. Et puis, il y a eu cette surprise : « Les partages n’ont plus cessé de grimper. Nous avons bien évidemment reçu des commentaires injurieux mais rien de vraiment conséquent par rapport au nombre de messages de soutien, dont plusieurs de la part d’anciens combattants et compatriotes, hommes et femmes », ont confié les deux hommes.
« Quand on imagine que jusqu’en 2011, il était interdit aux soldats américains d’afficher leur homosexualité et qu’aujourd’hui nous avons le droit de nous marier, nous pouvons être fiers de l’évolution de notre institution », pourtant réputée parmi les plus conservatrices de la société.
« Beaucoup de gens ne croient pas au grand amour, ni d’ailleurs au coup de foudre. Mais pour nous deux, c’était vraiment le cas. Et depuis notre rencontre, rien ne s’est jamais démenti. C’est l’homme de ma vie », a conclu Tristian, en réponse à Shane qui évoquait sa demande en mariage, avant de remercier les internautes pour leurs témoignages et les milliers de partages.

The AMPA wrote on the social networking site: “Spc. Shane Adriano and Pfc. Tristian Resz chose the Greene County Courthouse as a venue because they wanted something small and intimate for their Feb. 11 wedding. It was to be just the happy couple, a few supportive friends and a judge.
“But after they shared their “first married kiss” photo on Facebook, their small ceremony turned into a worldwide event.”
Shane told News-Leader that they have completely lost track of how many times the image has been shared: “It just keeps getting re-shared,” he said. “We had a little bit of negative comments on there, but I wasn’t even expecting that many people to like it and share it over and over again.”
Tristian told the news agency that a number of the positive comments that they’d managed to read had come from veterans and fellow servicemen and women: “The majority of people who were commenting and sharing, they were doing it because they are proud of how far the military has come,” Resz said. “Up until 2011 it was illegal to be openly gay in the military. Now, it’s legal for us to be married.”
Shane proposed to Tristian a couple of months after they first met: “I know a lot of people don’t believe in love at first sight, but sometimes you just know,” He confessed. “That is how I felt with me and him.”
And Tristian said he didn’t hesitate to say yes: “I realized this is someone I want in my life forever. This is the one person I can’t live without.”
