Le Mondial, c’était la victoire qui lui manquait. Et depuis dimanche, Abby Wambach est entrée dans la légende. L’équipe américaine de football féminin a en effet de rempor­té sa première Coupe du Monde en quinze ans, contre le Japon.

Un moment rare à la télévision et des images partagées qui ont enflammé ensuite les réseaux.

Abby Wambach, ce sont 183 buts en 248 sélections, deux titres olympiques et 1,82 m d’assurance absolue, capable de planter ses yeux dans les vôtres pour vous expliquer que “la défaite n’est pas une option”.
C’est aussi le magazine Time qui la classe cette année aux côtés de Barack Obama, du pape François, d’Angela Merkel ou de Kanye West parmi les 100 personnalités les plus influentes du monde. Un nouveau pas pour faire avancer les mentalités 🙂

After the US won the game, Abby Wambach, who is sometimes described as the soul of the team, ran over to the stands, where her spouse Sarah Huffman leaned down to hug and kiss her.

It made for one of the most striking images in women’s football celebrations since the US last won the World Cup in 1999—when Brandi Chastain took off her shirt and, in a sports bra, lifted her arms in celebration.

Last month the US Supreme Court made gay marriage legal in all 50 states. After that ruling, Instagram exploded with of pictures of gay couples holding hands, kissing, and toasting in celebration. Add to those images Wambach’s embrace of her wife—after a match watched by millions around the world.
